Women's Basketball Adds Two More to Recruiting Class

We are pleased to announce that Michele Dehetre & Janelle Thornley have committed to play women's basketball for the Lady Mustangs next season.

Michele Dehetre of Gray-New Gloucester High School, who also played soccer for the Patriots, was a 2-time MBR All-Star, won the GNGHS Coaches Award in soccer, was Vice President of Student Council, made the Honor Roll 4-times, and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Michele on why she chose CM, "When touring the college I felt like it was my home away from home.  It's local and I have the opportunity to continue my basketball career close to friends and family.  After meeting the coaches, players, and faculty I knew CM was the perfect fit for me," she said.  "Not only is the basketball team like a family and really supportive of one another, but they are also extremely competitive and strive to succeed at the highest level possible."

Janelle Thornley of Mt. View High School was named a KVAC All-Academic Team member, a KVAC Honorable Mention All-Star, a Kennebec Journal/Morning Sentinel Honorable Mention All-Star, and the Mt. View Lady Mustang Award Winner.  In addition to her basketball honors Janelle was also a member of the National Honor Society, the Treasurer of Student Council, earned High Honor all 4-years, and will be graduating ranked 6th in her high school class!

Janelle on why she picked CM, "From the first time I stepped on to campus I felt completely welcomed.  I could tell that CM was a big family and that is exactly what I was looking for.  I love the location of the campus - it is almost tucked away but when you pull in the long driveway you see everything you want in a college," she said.  "I am excited to be playing at the next level.  I know CM players are fast, highly skilled, intense and unselfish - I can't wait to be a part of it and further develop my game."

Comments from women's basketball coach, Andrew Morong, "Both of these young women are going to be important contributors not only on the basketball court but within our college community as well.  On the court, both will solidify our guard depth and extend our perimeter range - as both are great shooters.  Janelle is very quick, which will help her in our pressure defense system, but she can also score in multiple ways.  Michele is well-known for her 3-point accuracy and her ability to stretch the defense," he said.  "I'm pleased that these outstanding young women have decided to join our program!"
