Auburn, ME- It was a complete team effort by the CMCC Mustangs in their YSCC Tournament opening game on Friday evening. The Mustangs, playing like a well-oiled machine, used the pass first, shoot second approach to begin the game on a 17-0 run against YSCC foe Hampshire College. Shelby Branam broke up the scoring streak with a nice basket from the elbow to put Hampshire on the board, and Emily Waters hit a few big baskets to keep Hampshire in the game. Leading Hampshire at the half was Waters with 6 points, and for CM was Chanel Chillers with 11. The most impressive statistic? As a team, CM dished out 16 assists to only 5 turnovers!
CM continued its continuity into the second half getting a lot of Lady Mustangs quality minutes. As the game progressed, defensive stopper Becca Tucci knocked down a big jump shot from the wing causing the roof to almost come off Kirk Hall in a great moment for the sophomore. CMCC advances with an 80-20 win led by Chanel Chillers with 20 points and Corrie Kinder with 10. Emily Waters had 11 points to lead Hampshire. CMCC will face rival SMCC on Sunday at 2pm in the quarterfinal round.
