Less than 24-hours after a hard fought victory over Machias, the Lady Mustangs were back in action Sunday afternoon as they hosted Vermont Tech. VTC's leading scorer, and the top scorer in the Yankee Conference Kelly Vellek, was a focal point for the CM defense. The relentless defense of the Mustangs held VTC to just 19 points in the first half, producing 17 1st half turnovers.
CM was again led by Maggie Sabine who scored 18 points off 60% shooting, collected 5 steals and pulled down 8 rebounds. Keaira Jackson came off the bench and provided a huge spark against the VTC zone scoring 17 points, including three 3's. Corrina Kinder also came off the bench to drop in 10 points and haul in 7 rebounds. Danielle McCusker pulled down a season high 12 rebounds.
The Lady Mustangs defense forced 30 turnovers on the game and held VTC's Vellek to a season low 9 points on 2-18 shooting from the floor. CMCC shot 20-26 from the FT line.
CM will be back in action on Wednesday night, when they host Southern Maine Community College (6:00pm) in a matchup that will feature the top 2 ranked teams in the USCAA Division 2.
