Mustang Semester Recap - Ice Hockey

Lastly, our Men's Hockey team took to the ice under new Head Coach Jordy Knoren. Knoren brings a high level of experience with him as not only a player, but as a coach under former head coach Matt Buotte. After not taking the ice since February of 2020, the Mustangs are 4-6 heading into the semester break. The team took the ice for the first time in 599 days against Bridgton Academy and got off to a slow start. After going down 4-0 in the first intermission, they were able to find the back of the net with a goal from Cody Ivey. However, it was just too late as they fell 5-1. Coach Knoren acknowledged the momentum that team created with that goal, "I felt like the team really started to get some momentum in the second period, but unfortuantely the fifth goal took the momentum away."

Despite the slow start, they concluded this part of the season with an important 6-4 win over the Saint Joseph's Monks. "I thought this was our most disciplined game yet, only three penalties and having another 49-shot performance, we will have lots of success if we consistently play this way," said Coach Knoren. Outshooting their opponent is nothing new for this team as they have shot the puck 40+ times in numerous games this season while holding their opponent to 20 or less shots on frame.  If the Mustangs can convert on their offensive attack and limit turnovers, this team can go far in conference play. The Mustangs will be back in action at the end of January when they travel to WPI.
