Mustangs Fail to Reward Themselves, Lose to UNE

Auburn, ME: The Mustangs couldn't find the back of the net as they lose to UNE 3-1Friday night in a back and forth contest.  First period would give the Mustangs some penalty trouble, but it was the penalty kill units who were able to keep it a 0-0 game. '' It's hard to create a flow to the game when you get 3 penalties within the first 10 minutes, ideally, we like to have all lines touching the ice early and establish momentum right away'' Said Coach Knoren.  UNE would find the back of the net with 2 minutes left to go sending the Mustangs to the Locker room down 1-0. '' Giving up a goal that late in the period was tough and it definitely gave UNE some juice'' Said Coach Knoren.

The second period the Mustangs would come out playing with a sense of urgency, establishing lots of zone pressure, and gaining A+ opportunities. The Mustangs would control the play most of the second period, but it was UNE would strike with 4 minutes left to go in the 2nd period. '' We must give our guy's credit for sticking with it and keep establishing zone times and creating opportunities even when the bounces wouldn't fall our way'' said the coaching staff.

Mustangs would keep up the same intensity in the third period, but once again would fail to reward themselves with goals. UNE would strike on a rebound to make it 3-0 before Sam Laroche surprised the goaltender and sneaked one by five-hole (Assisted by Charles Campagna and Crewz Berry). The Mustangs who clearly had all the momentum and kept pressing and it was Spencer Berube who got robbed by a great glove save to keep it a 2-goal game.  The Mustangs would end up outshooting UNE 41-25.  '' All credits to their goaltender, he stole this game for UNE without a doubt'' said coach Knoren.

The Mustangs drop to 1-2 and face Wentworth at home next Friday @ 8 p.m. '' Put the 1st period aside, we played 40 minutes of hard-working hockey, it stings that we don't convert on our opportunities, but I am proud of the way we battled and responded.'' Said coach Knoren

Thank you to all the fans and we look forward seeing you next Friday @ 8 p.m.
