Auburn, ME, The Mustangs finally took the ice Sunday afternoon after having three games postponed due to a variety of reasons. The Mustangs would start super strong and create plenty of scoring chances-- it would take a while, but Jonah Bird was able to find a rebound and register the first goal to make it 1-0. St Joes was able to connect on a high tip to make it 1-1. Anthonin Picard was able to find another rebound to send the Mustangs with a 2-1 lead to intermission. '' The message was clear we create so many chances, but we weren't finding rebounds, getting two goals due to collecting rebounds is something we needed'' said Head Mustangs Coach Jordy Knoren''
In the second period the Mustangs didn't waste any time as Will Fletcher was able to score after a nice face-off win from Tim Van Tuinen. Shortly after Cody Ivey worked some magic with an o-zone face-off and sniped one past the goaltender to give the Mustangs a 4-1 lead. St Joes pushed hard and was able to collect three unanswered goals tying the game 4-4. '' You can't give away three goals lead like we did, these are hard lessons that we will have to learn'' added Coach Knoren.
The third period had lots of pressure on it, but it was the Mustangs who stayed disciplined and were able to earn some powerplays. After some missed opportunities it would be Anthonin Picard finding the winning goal. '' It couldn't happen to a better guy, Anthonin has done nothing but improved this semester'' said the coaching staff''. The Monks would pull their goaltender trying to find the equalizer but another clean draw win from Tim van Tuinen set up Nate Marcotte to make 6-4 the final score.
''I thought this was our most disciplined game yet, only three penalties and having another 49-shot performance, we will have lots of success if we consistently play this way'' said Coach Knoren''
