Taking teams for granted can be a costly lesson to learn. During warm-up the Mustangs looked down to the other end of the floor and watched only eight Eastern Maine players warming up in the pregame. Add in only a two day window from a buzzer beater emotional loss to rival SMCC and one can see a recipe for disaster. Despite outplaying the Golden Eagles for most of the game, CM came up on the short end dropping a 70-67 game to Eastern Maine Community College Friday night in overtime. Sloppy play, poor free throw shooting (12-22) and turnovers (24) cost the Mustangs down the stretch. Shooting 9-37 from the arc (24%) couldn't overcome the fourteen shot advantage CM had at the game outcome.
Eastern Maine wouldn't quit and continued to come back from double digit deficits in the second half. Nick Sherwood led EMCC with 20 points and Earl Hassell chipped in 15 points. Ismail Rios led the Mustangs with 16 points. CM (9-6) attempts to regain their winning ways by traveling to Hampshire College Saturday for a Yankee Conference game.
