Pottersville, NY – CMCC Men's Basketball improved to 9-0 in YSCC play and 15-7 overall after a 102-63 victory on the road against Word of Life Bible Institute. The win came on the first of four games in four days for the Mustangs. Captain Will Duke led all scorers with a career-high 24 points, including four three-pointers.
Central Maine led nearly the whole game. Dan Morales put the Huskies on top 6-5 after 2:31 in the first before a pair of free throws by Duke gave the Mustangs the lead for good. The sophomore guard was big in the first half, scoring 15 of his 24 points and reaching double digits after only 5:34.
Luke Jamieson hit a three to put CMCC up by ten for the first time with 13:35 remaining in the half and fellow guards Keiontay Marsh and Ayden Jefferson scored the team's final seven points before the break. Word of Life responded well in the final 1:44, going on an 11-1 run to cut the deficit to just 41-33 heading into the locker room.
The visitors came out fired up in the second half, getting a triple from Duke on their opening possession and outscoring WOLBI 19-9 in the first five minutes. Creighty Dickson pushed the lead past 20 points at 77-56 with a pair of free throws. Jarrod Swanson-Creighton came on and hit his first basket in a Mustangs jersey after transferring in from Bryant & Stratton-Ohio at the semester break. E.J. Carter, Toni Milevcic, and Tim Herbert all added baskets in the final minutes, as CMCC pulled away for a big win. In total, 12 different Central Maine players had points in the second half and the Mustangs outscored the Huskies 61-30 over the final 20 minutes.
Moore (17) and Marsh (12) joined Duke in double figures. All 14 players who appeared in the game for CMCC scored at least one point. Central Maine outrebounded Word of Life 50-23 and forced 21 turnovers compared to committing only ten. Xander Eason paced the hosts with 21 points while Trey Robinson finished with ten.
The Mustangs stay in New York for the second game of their four-game road trip. They take on the Paul Smith's College Bobcats on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
