Mustangs Avenge Loss to Lynx, Win 77-66

Fairfield, ME – CMCC Men's Basketball survived a battle on the road with in-state rival Kennebec Valley Community College, pulling out a 77-66 victory to keep their winning streak going. The Mustangs have now won 12 games in a row and avenged their early-season loss to the Lynx at home on October 13th.

KVCC took the early lead with some outside shooting, including a three-pointer from Heriberto Rodriguez to make it 8-3. The Mustangs didn't hit their second field goal until 3:19 into the first half but found their groove as the game went on, rallying from down 12-8.

Khaden Moore hit a layup and was fouled with 11:17 left before halftime to give the visitors their first lead up 14-12. That was part of a 14-0 run by Central Maine to go up 22-12 after their early struggles. Both sides traded jumpers for the rest of the half. Creighty Dickson and Will Duke knocked down triples to head to the locker room up 33-25.

The Mustangs never relinquished the lead in the second half but did survive a few scares. After extending the lead to 48-32, the hosts started building some momentum. Isaac Redding got a jumper in the paint to rattle home with 6:40 remaining, making it a one-possession game down 56-53. Back-to-back buckets from Alexandre Brigitte and Ryan White brought the lead to seven before a three-pointer by Jeremiah Tresanco.

Another basket by Redding got the KVCC within three once more, 65-62, with 2:20 to play. However, that was as close as they would get. Luke Jamieson hit a dagger with a three from the corner, and Moore got a putback layup to go on his own miss to make it 71-62. Some issues with the clock in the final minute slowed proceedings down, but the Mustangs were able to hang on from there for the 77-66 win.

Central Maine next travels to Lake Region High School on Thursday, December 18th for their final exhibition game of the year against Bridgton Academy on a neutral court. The Mustangs then finish off the first semester at home against Vermont State University Randolph on Saturday, December 20th at 4:00 pm.
