Mustangs Hit the Links for Season Opener

Casco, ME – The CMCC Golf team finished seventh out of nine teams in its season-opening match at the 22nd annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament, hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine at Point Sebago Golf Course.

Central Maine finished team play with a 336 (+48) in the field made up of mostly NCAA DIII schools. Brian Bilodeau led the Mustangs with a 77, ahead of Will Routhier and Dustin Farrington, both on 85. Bryson Mattox, the lone returner from last year's squad, carded an 89 while Aaiden Webb shot a 98.

The University of Southern Maine won the team title with a 308 (+20) score while Husson University placed second with a 316 (+28) card, and Southern Maine Community College was third with a 318 (+30) team score. Gordon College (318, +33), University of New England (322, +34), Saint Joseph's (332, +44), Central Maine Community College (336, +48), Maine Maritime Academy (346, +58), and UMaine-Farmington (362, +74) rounded out the list of competing institutions.

Individually, SMCC's Will Farschon tied with USM's Alex Grant with a 71 (-1) card to earn co-medalist honors while UNE's Owen Lee, and Keenan Buteau and Quinn Dillon for the USM B-team, finished in a three-way tie for third with 75 (+3) rounds.

The annual tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just before the start of his freshman year as a student-athlete at St. Joe's.

Central Maine next hosts its own CMCC Invitational tournament at Fairlawn Golf Course on Friday.
