Auburn, ME - The Lady Mustangs opened their season at home on Friday Sept 2 against powerhouse NHTI.
The young, still developing Mustangs had trouble shaking off the opening day nerves against an experienced NHTI team. The Lynx broke through the Mustang defense early to get on the scoreboard shortly after the first minute of play and it took a while for Central Maine to settle in and begin to play but once they did the game began to move up and down the field more. Freshmen Cheyenne Gray and Dakota Goguen anchored the Mustang defense in front of freshmen goalkeeper Shantel Camber, who faced 21 shots.
This is a young Mustang team with a bright future, who just needs to get more field time together and gain some confidence against more established opponents and once that happens their season will begin to shape up nicely. Central Maine travels to Machias on Sunday September 4.
