Auburn, ME – Central Maine Community College is pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Damon to join the Women's Basketball coaching staff as an assistant heading into the 2025-26 season.
"We're thrilled to welcome Coach Damon to our coaching staff," said women's basketball head coach Andrew Morong. "He brings a fresh perspective and great energy, and I'm confident he'll make an immediate impact. Coach Damon understands the high standards we hold our student-athletes to, both on the court and in the classroom, and he's going to help us reinforce those expectations every single day."
Damon joins the Mustangs after having spent the last decade coaching AAU basketball around New England, picking up state and regional championships. He is currently the Co-Director of the Southern Maine Sting AAU club and heads up the girls basketball program, helping athletes get recruited to play at the next level. That includes CMCC's returning 2nd-Team All-American Ava Smith and incoming freshman Kennedy Lampert. Additionally, Damon spent four years as a coach with the Waynflete School boys basketball team.
A Portland, ME native, Damon had a standout high school career with the South Portland Red Riots, being named a Southwestern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) All-Star and All-Star game MVP as a senior. He went on to play college basketball for the New England College Pilgrims.
"I am excited and honored to join Coach Morong and this elite basketball program," said Damon. "I'm eager to get on the hardwood and build strong relationships with these student athletes, and help this team achieve its full potential."
Damon joins a Central Maine women's basketball coaching staff that includes fellow assistants Abby Nielsen and Chantel Ouellette. CMCC is set to open its season on October 25th against Colby-Sawyer College.
