Newport, RI - In their 3rd road game in 6 days, the Lady Mustangs used their depth to pull away from Navy Prep for their 16th win of the year. With the 17-16 lead entering the 2nd quarter, CM outscored the Rams 46-18 over the next 2 quarters on their way to a 77-54 win.
The depth of CM was too much for NAPS, as the Lady Mustangs played all 15 players, with 14 of them playing at least 13 minutes. Even though the Rams took 28 more foul shots, CM would not be denied, using their pressure defense to swipe 18 steals.
Eraleena Gethers-Hairston (Auburn, ME) recorded in 2nd double-double in 3 games, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Jenny Schlim (Nottingham, NH) and Nicole Hamblin (Fayette, ME) also tallied 10 points a piece. Brooke Reynolds (Poland, ME) recorded team-highs of 11 rebounds and 6 assists, to go along with 4 assists and 2 blocks.
According to Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, "I thought we worked really hard in the 2nd half. Even when we extended our lead to 30, we had players diving on the floor for loose balls, attempting charges, and just getting after it. Hopefully we will start seeing this kind of effort for a full forty minutes. We have certainly seen signs of rust since being back from break, and with 3 road games in a row, it has been challenging picking up where we left off. We are going to continue to ignore standings, rankings, and everything else out of our control, and hone in on the process of becoming champions."
With the win the Lady Mustangs improve to 16-1 overall, and will be back in action on Wednesday when they host UMaine-Presque Isle (5:30pm tip-off).
