Auburn, ME - Down 3 with 3 minutes to go, CM mustered a viscous 10-0 run off their pressure defense to grab the lead and pull away from the Seawolves of UNB - St. John. A packed Kirk Hall exploded when freshman guard, Kristina Blais (Lewiston, ME), hit a pull-up jumper giving the Mustangs the lead for good with just over a minute to play.
Brooke Reynolds (Poland, ME) forced another turnover, and Tianna Harriman (Auburn, ME) found Seve Deery-Deraps (Rangeley, ME) for a deep 3 to send the crowd into hysteria and the Mustang lead to 4. CM forced another turnover in the backcourt, and Blais found Reynolds underneath for a quick layup.
Reynolds played a stellar all-around game finishing with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 steals. Harriman tallied a game-high 12 points, while Jenny Schlim (Nottingham, NH) poured in 11 points and 8 rebounds. Deery-Deraps hit 2 huge 2nd half 3's to finish with 8 points.
CM assisted on 20 of their 23 field goals while forcing 33 turnovers.
With the win the Lady Mustangs improve to 1-0 on the young season and will take on Champlain - St. Lawrence tomorrow in the final game of the Can-Am Tournament at 2:00pm.
