Cross Country Hits Personal Bests at Thomas

Waterville, ME – The CMCC Cross Country team had a fantastic day at the Thomas College Invitational, turning in one of their strongest team performances of the season.

On the men's side, every runner earned a new personal best time; an incredible accomplishment this late in the season. The team showed great depth and consistency, finishing with tight pack times and strong kicks against a competitive field.

Sophomore Owen Heseltine led the Mustangs once again, crossing the line in 30:34.9 in 13th place overall, followed by Zach Peirce in 18th (32:36.3), Robert Spears (36:58.7) in 28th place, Hugo Lopes (39:15.6), Brandon Powell (41:57.4), Henry Avery (42:55.9), and Carlos Fra-Nero (42:58.7). All of them posted season or lifetime bests.

The women's team continued their strong momentum as well, highlighted by a standout performance from freshman Eva Fleurent. The Biddeford, ME native earned a third-place overall finish with a time of 27:52.1 to secure a spot on the podium against the rest of the field made up of NCAA competitors.

She was followed by Hailey Bowley (35:17.9) and Abby Therriault (38:01.2), both posting solid efforts on a challenging course and personal bests by a large margin.

"I'm incredibly proud of the hard work and determination from both our men's and women's teams, especially this far into the season," said head coach Kevin Mitchell. "We're peaking at the right time, and I'm really excited to see what we can do at the YSCC Championship race in two weeks."

The Mustangs travel to Concord, NH for the conference event, hosted by NHTI on November 1st.
