Medford, MA – The CMCC Men's and Women's Track and Field teams took part in their final event ahead of the postseason at the Sunshine Classic hosted by Tufts University. The Mustangs sprint and distance athletes got the chance to set one final time ahead of the USCAA and YSCC championships next weekend.
On the women's side, Adriyanna Edge, Destiny Mooers, Kierra Spradlin, and Marney Rees competed in one event each.
Edge placed seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 1:18.06. Mooers came home seventh in the 400-meter hurdles by running a pacey 1:20.01. Spradlin set a qualifying time in the 800 meters. Her time of 3:09.74 placing her 18th in the field. Rees meanwhile took to the 3000m steeplechase for just the second time. The Glenelg North, Australia native placed third with a 17:48.59 time.
They'll be joined by their five additional teammates at next week's meet at American International College in Springfield, MA. The event will double as the decider for both the YSCC conference championships and the USCAA national championships.
On the men's side, eight different athletes competed for the Mustangs across seven events. Exaucee Namwira had the best showing for the team, posting a 16.96 second time in the 110-meter hurdles to qualify for the event finals. The Morse High School product also ran an impressive 58.39 in the 400-meter hurdles, the second fastest time in the USCAA this year! Da'Vohn Jonas and Zachary Peirce also competed in the 400 hurdles, ending with times of 1:01.05 and 1:09.92 respectively.
The 3000m steeplechase was the other busy event for Central Maine. Owen Heseltine set the pace for the team finishing second overall in 12:53.30. Captain Mark Schepici (13:27.28) and Robert Spears (13:48.87) finished not too far behind.
Djordje Stanimirovic ran both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. The freshman finished the 100m in 12.07 seconds to place 24th overall among the field of NCAA DIII runners. In the 200m, he came home in 35th place with a time of 24.62 seconds.
Last but not least was captain Shane Johansen. The USCAA 2nd-Team All-American got one more run in the high jump and cleared 1.75 meters, tied for his second-best height of the year.
