Softball Adds Gerry to Coaching Staff

Auburn, ME – Central Maine Community College has added Raquel Gerry as a softball assistant coach ahead of the 2025-26 season. The Windham, ME native links back up with head coach Fred Wilcox whom she has coached with at the high school and club levels.

"Raquel brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of what it takes to build a successful program," said athletic director Dave Gonyea. "Having worked alongside coach Wilcox for several years, she is no stranger to the dedication and vision required to elevate a team to new heights. With her commitment to player development, team culture, and long-term success, Raquel's addition marks an exciting step forward for the program."

Gerry has been coaching softball for more than 15 years, starting when her daughters began playing t-ball, and working with players at all levels from youth leagues to high school teams to national travel softball programs. Her stops include the Windham High School Eagles varsity program where she was an assistant coach, as well as coaching multiple age groups with the New England Elite Softball travel teams.

Before transitioning into coach, Gerry was herself a college softball player for two seasons at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY from 2000-02. There she racked up back-to-back NJCAA 2nd-Team All-American honors as an infielder.

She lives in Windham with her husband, James, and their two daughters, Kelsey and Brooke. Brooke, a two-time Maine Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022 and 2023, is currently a pitcher at the University of Rhode Island (NCAA DI). Gerry says she focuses on her strong communication and motivational skills to ensure each player feels valued and supported as they progress in their softball career.

"I'm looking forward to having a positive impact on this team and helping them develop into the players and people they want to be," Gerry said. "Softball is just an avenue for them to learn many life lessons that they can bring with them."

Gerry will be paired with returning softball assistant Abby Nielsen on Wilcox's coaching staff. CMCC Softball starts the fall portion of its 2025-26 campaign on Sunday, September 7th with a doubleheader at home against Roxbury Community College.
