Auburn, ME – Central Maine Community College has appointed Kevin Mitchell as the head coach of the Men's and Women's Track and Field teams ahead of the 2026 season.
"I'm happy to have Kevin Mitchell add the track and field team to his coaching duties," said athletic director Dave Gonyea. "He is a local guy with deep roots in the community and knows how to form connections to get the best out of his athletes. I know he'll do a fantastic job for us."
Mitchell adds the role to his existing position as head coach of the CMCC Cross Country program. This fall, the men's team finished fourth at the Yankee Small College Conference Championships, placing two runners in the top 15. On the women's side, Eva Fleurent finished second overall, tied for the best-ever individual finish by a CMCC cross country runner.
"I'm excited to continue working with CM's student-athletes and to expand my role with the track and field program," said Mitchell. "It's a great opportunity to help more athletes grow, compete, and reach their goals."
The Track and Field program is coming off its best season in 2025. The men's team won its first YSCC Championship last spring and ended up just off the podium in fourth at the USCAA National Championships. The women's team finished runner-up for the conference title and 7th nationally. The Mustangs had two All-American Honorable Mentions and had multiple athletes, particularly sprinters, among the best times in the country throughout the year.
Mitchell has five seasons of experience as head coach of the Mustangs Cross Country team over two stints. He developed the Couch to 5K program for RSU 16 Adult Education, directed his own road race, and served on the Race Committee Board for the L/A Triple Crown 5K Series and the Lake Auburn Half Marathon & 5K. Away from the track, Mitchell is a Senior Account Manager at Rinck Advertising with more than 16 years of experience in strategic leadership and management. He lives in Turner, ME and enjoys running the camp roads around Bear Pond and spending time at the lake with family and friends.
