West Haven, CT - Mustangs travelled for their longest road trip to face a solid New Haven Charger team. In a tight contest the Mustangs weren't able to bring the win home and ended up losing 7-3.
The first period started with high intensity and chances on both sides of the ice. It was filled with plenty of action as the Mustangs took a 3-2 lead in the locker room. " Anytime you establish a lead on the road it's a good thing. We had plenty of momentum and energy on the bench," said Coach Knoren.
The Mustangs started the second period with a power play and hit the cross bar with a fantastic move and shot from Will Fletcher, unfortunately after a turnover the Chargers would tie the game up. "The turn-over was a tough goal to give up, especially cause it took some of the momentum away that we had established,'' said Knoren. New Haven would add two more goals to the count and take a 5-3 lead into the locker room.
Mustangs came out on a mission in the third period putting 18 shots total on net for the period, and only giving up 7 shots against. But the trend of the game continued, and they would not convert on the high-quality scoring opportunities. "It's great to see how many chances we created it shows that we are getting better with the o-zone entries and offensive play, it is unacceptable how we gave goals away and we will have to continue to learn from that," said Knoren. The Mustangs would end up outshooting the Chargers by 52-32 but couldn't take the win home.
