Auburn, ME - It's been over 5 weeks since the Lady Mustangs took the court together, and the rust was on full display for about 37-minutes Saturday night. Trailing by 5 with just over 90-seconds remaining, CM connected from deep twice, and used their press to take the lead with under a minute to play, stealing the win from the Knights.
Natalie Thurber (Wells, ME) connected on three 3's, scoring a team-high 15 points, including a deep bomb to cut the CCRI lead from 4 to 1 with less than a minute left. Brooke Reynolds (Poland, ME) shot 60% from the floor finishing with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Alex Bessey (Jay, ME) still hobbled by an ankle injury finished with 13 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists, while Jordyn Reynolds (Poland, ME) hit for 10 points and a team-high 7 rebounds. Kristen Huntress (Harrison, ME) hit three 3's of her own, finishing with 9 points.
Head Coach, Andrew Morong, on the win, "This is pretty close to what I expected after having such a long layoff. I was very proud of our mental toughness, especially down the stretch. When we needed to make plays and hit shots, we did. Alex had some great defensive sequences in the press that created extra possessions for us, while Nat and Kristen hit some big time shots. Brooke was just Brooke, filling the stat sheet yet again. We need to be more consistent, and that's on me. I need to get our women ready to play, and there is no better time than the present."
Tiondra Hands led CCRI with 15 points.
With the win CM improves to 15-1 overall, and will play their second game in as many days tomorrow. They travel to Brockton, MA to take on Massasoit CC. Following Saturday's game, the Lady Mustangs will play their 3rd straight game when they play host to Berkeley College (NY) in a 1:00pm game on Sunday.
